Don't judge a book by its cover, judge it by its... dedication?

We are over a week into Accio Books and I finally have the excuse I've been waiting for to talk about one of my favourite things: book dedications.

If I am participating in that dangerous pastime of browsing a bookshop, I pay very little attention to a book's cover. If I am trying to decide between two books that are unknown to me then it is the dedication that will be the deciding factor.

While sorting through books to donate to our Accio Books campaign, I couldn't stop myself reaching for my favourite books and their dedications so I thought I would share a couple.

Jonathan Safran Foer- Everything is Illuminated

F.Scott Fitzgerald- The Great Gatsby

These next two dedications are just one of the many reasons I am in love with J.D.Salinger and all his work.
J.D.Salinger-  Raise high the roof beam, carpenters

J.D.Salinger- Franny and Zooey
Side note: "this pretty skimpy-looking book" is incredible and worth a read for anyone who enjoyed the writing style of The Catcher in the Rye, although the subject matter is uniquely its own.

C.S.Lewis- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I'll end with my favourite and one I am certain you all have read.
J.K Rowling- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

In fact all of Jo's dedications are rather special, she sure knows the way to this girl's heart.

I'm pretty sure I can't be the only one with a dedication obsession! Let me know in the comments what your favourite book dedication is, I love being introduced to new ones. Or similarly, let me know who you would dedicate your own book to, I know we have a few writers in LL!
